"...Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith...." -Hebrews 12:2

Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

1. Consider the progress of our study emphasizing "Christ Alone":

a. First, we have seen how Christ alone purged our sins through the sufficient provision of His atoning death.

b. Next, we shall see how Christ alone secures our salvation through the specific effects of His atoning death.

2. Christ secures our salvation as the "author" of our faith.

a. Word meaning: chief leader.

b. As the Captain of our salvation Christ has received orders from His father to bring many sons to glory.
Hebrews 2:10 - For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

1) Christ takes responsibility for each one the Father has given Him.
Hebrews 2:13 - And again: "I will put My trust in Him." And again: "Here am I and the children whom God has given Me."
John 6:37-39 - "All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. 38For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.

2) Christ loves each one given to Him.
Hebrews 2:11 - For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren.

3) Christ shared in the nature and experiences of those He came to save.
Hebrews 2:14 - Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil.

4) Through His death Christ destroyed the cruel and merciless captor of His people.
Hebrews 2:14 - Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil.

5) Through His death Christ made a propitiation for the sins of His people.

3. Christ secures our salvation as the "finisher" of our faith.

a. Word meaning: complete or perfect.

b. As the finisher of our faith Christ has secured, through His death, everything necessary for the eternal salvation of those entrusted to Him.

1) He secures their complete salvation by the offering of His body in obedience to the Father's will
Hebrews 10:5-7 - Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: "Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me. 6In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You had no pleasure. 7Then I said, 'Behold, I have come; In the volume of the book it is written of Me; To do Your will, O God.'"

2) Through that offering He sanctified His people.
Hebrews 10:10 - By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

3) Through that offering He has perfected forever all those who, one by one, are being sanctified.
Hebrews 10:14 - For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
