"For since the
creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly
seen...."
-Romans
1:20
For since the creation of the world
His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood
by the things that are made,
even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without
excuse.
1. In the world we can
see both beauty and chaos. And we need to sort them out
properly.
a. In an
evolutionary world view chaos and death are essential
parts of the gradual process of change. The beauty of the
world is the result of randomized, death/life evolution.
The evolutionist's hope is survival.
b. In a biblical
creation world view the beauty of the world is God's
creation. Chaos came after creation and is a result of
sin. The creationist's hope is salvation.
2. The splendor,
majesty and beauty of the physical universe is a witness to
the Creator.
a.
The witness
is clearly visible to all.
Romans
1:19-20 - Because what may be known of God is manifest in
them, for God has shown it to them. 20For
since the creation of the world His invisible attributes
are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are
made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they
are without excuse.
b.
The witness
is constant.
Romans
1:20 - For since the creation of the world His invisible
attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the
things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead,
so that they are without excuse.
c. The witness is
legally (God's government) conclusive with its
evidence.
Romans
1:20 - For since the creation of the world His invisible
attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the
things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead,
so that they are without excuse.
d. The witness
points to the character of God who transcends His
creation.
Romans
1:20 - For since the creation of the world His invisible
attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the
things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead,
so that they are without excuse.
3. Though the witness
of creation is so clear and conclusive, sin results in chaos
in the human heart and mind. Notice how the (gentile) world
reacts to the witness:
a. Does not
revere Him.
Romans
1:20 - For since the creation of the world His invisible
attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the
things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead,
so that they are without excuse.
b. Replaces the
Creator with something created.
Romans
1:23, 25 - And changed the glory of the incorruptible God
into an image made like corruptible man; and birds and
four-footed animals and creeping things. 25Who
exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and
served the creature rather than the Creator, who is
blessed forever. Amen.
c. Rebels against
the Creator.
Romans
1:18 - For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven
against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who
suppress the truth in unrighteousness.
4. Salvation,
therefore, is not the reward for those who find God in
Creation. Instead, it is the grace of God that effectually
calls God's elect from the chaos and enlightens them so they
can see the Creator and receive His provision of
righteousness through faith in His Son, Jesus
Christ.
