"And the world is passing
away...." -1
John 2:17
And the world is passing away, and
the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides
forever.
The world: a doomed
place
1. The world is passing away- but the
world doesn't think so. Notice the world's view:
a. Progress-
Genesis 11:1-6 - Now
the whole earth had one language and one speech.
2And it came to pass, as they journeyed from
the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar,
and they dwelt there. 3Then they said to one
another, "Come, let us make bricks and bake them
thoroughly." They had brick for stone, and they had
asphalt for mortar. 4And they said, "Come, let
us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in
the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be
scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth."
5But the LORD came down to see the city and
the tower which the sons of men had built.
6And the LORD said, "Indeed the people are one
and they all have one language, and this is what they
begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be
withheld from them.
b. Uniformitarianism-
2 Peter 3:3-7 -
Knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last
days, walking according to their own lusts,
4and saying, "Where is the promise of His
coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things
continue as they were from the beginning of creation."
5For this they willfully forget: that by the
word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth
standing out of water and in the water, 6by
which the world that then existed perished, being flooded
with water. 7But the heavens and the earth
which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved
for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of
ungodly men.
2. And so, the world projects a view
of itself that is not accurate. This is the definition of an
illusion.
a. The illusion is explained
and communicated with the depraved reasoning of the human
will.
b. The illusion is promoted by the
world's preoccupation with things physical.
3. The world (way of life organized by
Satan, expressed through humanity) is under the judgment of
God.
a. In the present:
Genesis 2:17 -
"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you
shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you
shall surely die."
Romans 1:18 - For the wrath of God is revealed from
heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of
men, who suppress the truth in
unrighteousness.
b. In the future:
1) Revelation
20:10 - The devil, who deceived them, was cast into
the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the
false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and
night forever and ever.
2) Revelation 20:11 - Then I saw a great white throne
and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and
the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for
them.
3) Revelation 20:12 -14 - And I saw the dead, small
and great, standing before God, and books were opened.
And another book was opened, which is the Book of
Life. And the dead were judged according to their
works, by the things which were written in the books.
13The sea gave up the dead who were in it,
and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in
them. And they were judged, each one according to his
works. 14Then Death and Hades were cast
into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
4) Revelation 21:1-4 - Now I saw a new heaven and a
new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth
had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
2Then I, John, saw the holy city, New
Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3And I heard a loud voice from heaven
saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men,
and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His
people. God Himself will be with them and be their
God. 4"And God will wipe away every tear
from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor
sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for
the former things have passed away."
4. What will remain after this future
final judgment? Those who presently do the will of
God.

Version)
