"So the LORD scattered them...."
-Genesis
11:8
So the LORD scattered them abroad
from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased
building the city.
1. At Babel humanity revealed its
inclination to globalism..
a. The globalist agenda is
entirely man-centered: to promote humanity.
b. God Himself reveals that there
are things humans can do together that they can't do
alone as individuals.
c. Notice the divine response: to
scatter and separate.
2. The divine response at Babel takes
place, significantly, in between two important divine
covenants.
a. God's covenant with
Noah.
Genesis 9:8-17 -
Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying:
9"And as for Me, behold, I establish My
covenant with you and with your descendants after you,
10and with every living creature that is with
you: the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth
with you, of all that go out of the ark, every beast of
the earth. 11Thus I establish My covenant with
you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters
of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to
destroy the earth." 12And God said: "This is
the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you,
and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual
generations: 13I set My rainbow in the cloud,
and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me
and the earth. 14It shall be, when I bring a
cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in
the cloud; 15and I will remember My covenant
which is between Me and you and every living creature of
all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to
destroy all flesh. 16The rainbow shall be in
the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the
everlasting covenant between God and every living
creature of all flesh that is on the earth."
17And God said to Noah, "This is the sign of
the covenant which I have established between Me and all
flesh that is on the earth."\
b. God's covenant with Abraham.
Genesis 12:1-3 -
Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country,
from your family and from your father's house, to a land
that I will show you. 2I will make you a great
nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and
you shall be a blessing. 3I will bless those
who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and
in you all the families of the earth shall be
blessed."
3. Consider how God's response to
Babel is related to Israel.
a. He scattered and separated
the nations based on His plans for Israel.
Deuteronomy 32:8 -
When the Most High divided their inheritance to the
nations, when He separated the sons of Adam, He set the
boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the
children of Israel.
b. He established Israel to be a
people for Himself.
Deuteronomy 29:13
- "That He may establish you today as a people for
Himself, and that He may be God to you, just as He has
spoken to you, and just as He has sworn to your fathers,
to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
4. After Christ's first coming God
revealed a new plan of grace to save many gentiles by
allowing them to participate in the salvation benefits of
Israel's covenants.
Romans 11:25-33 - For
I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of
this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion,
that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the
fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26And so
all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The Deliverer
will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness
from Jacob; 27For this is My covenant with them,
When I take away their sins." 28Concerning the
gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the
election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers.
29For the gifts and the calling of God are
irrevocable. 30For as you were once disobedient
to God, yet have now obtained mercy through their
disobedience, 31even so these also have now been
disobedient, that through the mercy shown you they also may
obtain mercy. 32For God has committed them all to
disobedience, that He might have mercy on all.
33Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom
and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and
His ways past finding out!
Ephesians 2:11-18 -
Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh; who
are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision
made in the flesh by hands; 12that at that time
you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth
of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise,
having no hope and without God in the world.
13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far
off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
14For He Himself is our peace, who has made both
one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation,
15having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that
is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as
to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making
peace, 16and that He might reconcile them both to
God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death
the enmity. 17And He came and preached peace to
you who were afar off and to those who were near.
18For through Him we both have access by one
Spirit to the Father.
a. In preparation, God
sovereignly appointed the times and borders of the
gentile nations.
Acts 17:26 - "And
He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell
on all the face of the earth, and has determined their
preappointed times and the boundaries of their
dwellings."
b. His purpose: that they might
seek the Lord.
Acts 17:27 - "So
that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they
might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far
from each one of us."
5. In the closing chapter of the world
before Christ returns, notice who is standing.
a.
Revelation 7:1-4 -
After these things I saw four angels standing at the
four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the
earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, on the
sea, or on any tree. 2Then I saw another angel
ascending from the east, having the seal of the living
God. And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels to
whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea,
3saying, "Do not harm the earth, the sea, or
the trees till we have sealed the servants of our God on
their foreheads." 4And I heard the number of
those who were sealed. One hundred and forty-four
thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel were
sealed:
b. Revelation
7:9-12 - After these things I looked, and behold, a
great multitude which no one could number, of all
nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before
the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes,
with palm branches in their hands, 10and
crying out with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation belongs
to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!"
11All the angels stood around the throne and
the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on
their faces before the throne and worshiped God,
12saying: "Amen! Blessing and glory and
wisdom, Thanksgiving and honor and power and might, Be to
our God forever and ever. Amen."

Scripture quoted is from the New King James
Version)
